President’s Report

Season’s greetings Club members,

Due to COIVD, the later part of 2021 has been another interesting year with respect running events, especially in the Auckland region. Sadly, the Milford Christmas picnic was cancelled for the first time in many years.

Despite these challenges, the Club has continued to grow to record membership numbers (a whisker under 900). This is significant growth across all regions and car types when you consider membership was just over 600 people five years ago.

Despite the northern region lockdowns, it hasn’t kept Club members at home. Personally, I have been enjoying my cars most weekends with a group of good Club friends, you will have seen photos from our drives on Facebook and in this edition of Spiel, as we have explored the four corners of the Auckland border. I am most grateful to Doug Hannah and friends for the weekend ‘Dawn Raids’, they have helped keep me sane over recent months. You will see a mixture of cars as we swapped between air-cooled and more modern water-cooled cars, depending on the weather and the run.

Northern Region
While the Auckland calendar has been subdued due to COVID restrictions, as the region reopens, the northern Social Committee has already programmed events for every 2-3 weeks, so expect to get your full PCNZ fix starting with a track day at Taupo in January and the Wenderholm picnic in February 2022.

We did manage to sneak an official Club drive with a Kawakawa Bay ice cream run, special thank you Andrew Waugh for organising, and I think these short-notice – informal events are the way forward.

The Wellington region has held some exciting events with Sunday drives and a garage crawl to a prominent New Zealander and Club member’s car collection, which includes a Gunther Werks 993 amongst the attractions.

Southern Region
The South Island has been super-active with notable events including a SWOTY in Invercargill, the 25th anniversary of the Boxster model celebration to Terrace Downs, a track day with 28 people, the ladies’ weekend to Akaroa and grass gymkhana. At the time the writing, 40 southern Club members will be loading their cars up for the Christmas picnic being held at Bain’s Motor House. Thank you to Andrew and Jeremy for hosting the Club again.

Thanking our Club Volunteers
Thank you to the members and supporters across the country who volunteer and help run Club events. Our Club exists because of these people, and I am not sure members realise just how much effort goes into organising a weekend away, a race series, a permitted event and Spiel etc. I wish to thank all who volunteer on our Committees and help run events.

Northern Members - Your Club Needs You!
The northern region is actively recruiting for more Auckland based helpers and event organisers please to run social events. With the changing of the guard (a few existing Social Committee members stepping down, including myself), we need the next wave of Club members to lead the region.

If there are events that you could run or you would just like to help-out, please contact your regional coordinator or myself (I look forward to hearing from you).

Finally, Merry ‘Porsche-mas’ everybody, enjoy using your cars over the holiday season and post photos of your adventures on our Club Facebook page. Take care and I look forward to seeing you at Club events across the country in 2022.

Paul Miller - PCNZ President

Editor's Report

The best of Christmas and holiday wishes from the Spiel editorial team to all.

This year has been a challenge for us but I must express a very big thank you to all the contributors of stories and articles plus their great photos. Some have had time on their hands due to COVID and so have written about their unique Porsches and racing experiences. Many have found time in their busy normal lives to contribute. Some after a little pressure from me. Thus, I have managed to fill our usual five issues to capacity.

All ideas and material are greatly appreciated. As the Spiel covers illustrate and the contents expand our Club has a very broad range of people and Porsche related interests. That is one of the reasons I believe that PCNZ is such an amazing Club.

The Boxster 25 Anniversary Celebrations were successful joint Porsche NZ and PCNZ events unfortunately held only in Christchurch and Wellington.

Thank you to all our sponsors and advertisers who are vital to us. Please use their services and products regularly as we need to encourage all our supporters.

The Spiel editorial team of Ashley Powell and Richard Endean work very hard to ensure the content makes sense and the spelling is accurate. Thank you, guys.

Now we all need to relax with our families, friends and our favourite marque.

There are more than 700 members so there will be many more tales to be told. Accept my challenge and please flood my inbox. spiel@porsche.org.nz
